Taser International, the maker of the famous stun gun used by law enforcement agencies, has introduced a Wildlife Taser that it hopes will be picked up by wildlife managers, reports the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
The wildlife "Electronic Control Device" prototype ... is designed to deliver a "neuro muscular incapacitation pulse" from 35 feet and can fire three shots with each load. Just as our Taser technology is a safer and more effective option to stop dangerous individuals, the Taser Wildlife ECD is an extension of Taser's technology to save animal lives. At least one Alaska Department Fish and Game official likes the idea of a Taser as a tool for wildlife management, but the department is not likely to recommend that anyone buy the $2,000 device as a substitute for firearms. "I just shudder when people buy a piece of equipment and all of a sudden think they don't have to do anything proactive in bear country. It's a false sense of security that gets people into trouble and leads them to make decisions they wouldn't otherwise make," Fish and Game wildlife technician Larry Lewis told the Daily News last summer.
