Callan takes silver in Aspen

Girdwood snowboarder Callan Chythlook-Sifsof captured a silver medal today at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colo.

Chythlook-Sifsof, a 2010 Olympian, finished second in the women's snowboardcross finals, where the top three finishers were separated by a mere 1.083 seconds.

Gold went to Lindsey Jacobellis, Chythlook-Sifsof's teammate on the U.S. Ski Team, and third place went to Deborah Anthonioz of France.

Jacobellis, who was the top qualifier in Friday's preliminaries, finished her run in 1 minute, 38.943 seconds. Chythlook-Sifsof, who finished fourth in qualifying, followed in 1:39.681 and Anthonioz, third in qualifying, was next in 1:40.026.

Both of the women on the podium with Chytlook-Sifsof are Olympic silver medalists -- Jacobellis won silver at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy, and Anthonioz took silver last year in Vancouver.

Chythlook-Sifsof, who turns 22 on Valentine's Day, is the second Alaskan to win a medal at this week's Winter X games.

On Friday, Cory Davis of Soldotna claimed the bronze medal in the snowmachine speed and style event, his second bronze medal in that event in three years.
