Preliminary results show that Larry DeVilbiss was elected mayor of the Mat-Su Borough on Tuesday.
DeVilbiss, 66, got about 55 percent of the vote among the eight candidates in the special election.
He is a former borough assemblyman and School Board member, and a current board member for Matanuska Electric Association.
The next highest vote getter in the preliminary results was Brian Sullivan, a former Washington state legislator, according to the borough.
DeVilbiss will serve as mayor until October 2012, filling out a term started in 2009 by Talis Colberg, who resigned in October after becoming director of Mat-Su College.
The part-time mayor's job pays $19,325 a year. The borough Assembly hires a full-time manager to oversee the day-to-day activities of the government.
