River swim makes Alaska man too cold to resist arrest

KODIAK -- Swimming across a river may be one way to try to get away from the police, unless it's winter and it's Alaska.

KMXT-FM reports that a 28-year-old Kodiak man tried to evade police by jumping from a second-story hotel window and swimming across the Buskin River before being arrested Tuesday.

Alaska State Troopers, backed by Kodiak City Police, U.S. Coast Guard military police and a probation officer arrived at the hotel about 11 a.m. looking for Benjamin Bodi, who had an outstanding warrant for violating probation and failed to check in with his probation officer.

By the time police caught up with Bodi on the other side of the river, troopers said he was too cold to resist arrest.

Bodi treated for mild hypothermia but did not require hospitalization.
