Dustin Scalisi, 14, and his 10-year-old brother, Timothy, are being called heroes after they grabbed their baby brothers and headed quickly out the door when the family's Lazy Mountain house caught fire Tuesday. They also turned the family dogs loose before making their way to a neighbor's house to get help, reports the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman.
[The brothers] were at home folding laundry and looking after two of their younger siblings who were ill when they heard a noise outside the window they couldn't identify.
When they looked to see what it was, their mom, Stephanie Scalisi, said, her sons saw a wall of fire engulfing one whole side of the Lazy Mountain house the family rented from Larry DeVilbiss. ...
The Scalisi brothers each grabbed one of the young siblings in their care and ran out the door. The babies they carried wore only diapers as the two brothers ran in their socks to a neighbor's house for help.
Stephanie Scalisi and husband Lonnie had left the boys in charge at home while they went to Wasilla to pick up a vehicle at the shop. The fire destroyed the home and almost all the family's possessions, Stephanie said. Read more at The Frontiersman.
