Palin headlines: Reactions to the Christian Broadcasting interview

In her interview with the Christian Broadcast Network on Friday, Sarah Palin criticized President Obama's handling of the Egypt crisis, seemed to express suspicion of the Egyptian protesters' motives, and paraphrased Scripture when asked how she copes with criticism in the media. Reactions are going up online today.

White House to Palin: Huh? (USA Today): White House press secretary Robert Gibbs had this to say when asked about former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin's bleak assessment of the president's handling of the Egypt crisis: "I read that answer several times, and I still really don't know what she's saying."

GOP senator disagrees with Palin on Obama handling of Egypt (CNN): Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham may count Sarah Palin as a friend, but he disagrees with her on Egypt. "I really have no fault with the president, Obama, the way he's handled this process," Graham said. "I disagree with Governor Palin over this particular issue."

Palin spouts nonsense with criticism of protesters in Egypt: (Mike Lupica, N.Y. Daily News): After she got done with questioning the motives of the protesters in Cairo, she started swinging away at the president as if he were another fish flopping around on the deck on "Sarah Palin's Alaska." But that is Palin: Swing first, ask questions later, then hope for answers that don't make her go straight to Google. ... "We want to be able to trust those who are screaming for democracy there in Egypt," Palin told CBN interviewer David Brody. ... But even Palin has to know that the story in Tahrir Square, however it is compromised later or even defeated, began with people wanting democracy.

How Palin tortures the Bible (Chris Lehmann, The Awl): Any political pronouncement by Sarah Palin is first and foremost a pronouncement about Sarah Palin. This became quite apparent when the [Friday] interview with CBN reporter David Brody turned to matters of faith proper -- a turn that Palin herself introduced, tellingly, when Brody asked her how she handled criticism from the mainstream press. "You know," she replied, "I'm reminded so often of 2 Timothy 1:7 knowing that God ... gives us a spirit of power and love and a sound mind. A sound mind so that we can keep things in perspective. ..." First off, replying to putative detractors in the American media by citing the authority of the imprisoned Apostle Paul, in the last epistle he penned from jail in Rome prior to his death, is by itself far from compelling evidence of the ability to "keep things in perspective."

GOP puzzled by Palin's attacks on Obama, silence on 2012 (BusinessWeek): While other possible candidates raise money, hire aides and woo supporters, Palin has made few visits to early primary states. Instead, she focuses on paid speeches, her role as a Fox News contributor, interviews in friendly media forums and Facebook and Twitter postings attacking the Obama administration. Palin's strategy has political observers questioning whether the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee is pioneering a new way to conduct a campaign in a political era dominated by social media.

Palin needs her own wake-up call (Jonathan Capehart, Washington Post): How can the American people trust what the media say about her when she won't allow herself to be subjected to intense scrutiny? Palin happily resides in the safe bubble of Twitter and Facebook. And when she does answer questions, she does so from sympathetic inquisitors or from the comfort of her Fox News security blanket.
