A pack of cigarettes stolen in January led police to more than 7 pounds of methamphetamine and now detectives want help finding the suspects, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
A white male with a kitchen knife snatched a pack of Marlboro Reds from behind the counter at a Boniface Parkway Tesoro To Go Mart on Jan. 9. The cigarettes cost $8.99, police said.
A clerk said the suspect left in a gray or light-blue sedan. An officer on patrol noticed a car matching that description at a mobile home park on Boniface and its engine was still warm, police said.
Officers found out the car belonged to Manual Delrio, 25, who had just left. Another occupant at the mobile home let the officers in, and they found a knife and a paint-ball mask similar to the ones used in the robbery, police said.
The man also told officers that a lot of people visited Delrio in his room at all hours of the day, and Delrio usually kept the door locked, police said.
Investigators returned with a search warrant and found 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine. That's about 7.5 pounds, worth at least $180,000, police said.
Police describe Delrio as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 190 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.
They also are looking for Delrio's associate, Rogelio Arriaga, 26, 6 feet, 2 inches tall, 175 pounds
