Trooper vehicle strikes, kills moose on Parks Highway

TALKEETNA -- An Alaska State Troopers SUV struck and killed a moose Monday on the Parks Highway near Talkeetna.

Authorities say Trooper Tage Toll was not hurt in the evening collision near Mile 83 of the Parks, but the moose was killed on impact.

According to troopers, the moose stepped onto the highway in front of Toll's southbound patrol SUV.

Troopers say an oncoming vehicle was approaching at the same time, forcing Toll to dim his headlights and limiting his ability to take evasive action.

The patrol vehicle sustained about $10,000 in damage and had to be towed from the scene.
