The crew of a fishing boat rescued five other fishermen whose vessel ran aground on the Alaska Peninsula early today, the Coast Guard said.
Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios says there was no immediate sign of pollution from the 57-foot boat, The Cap't Andrew, which was carrying about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel when it ran aground on Bold Cape, about four miles southeast of King Cove. There were no reported injuries.
Two fishing vessels responded. The Coast Guard says a crew member of the Just in Case took a skiff over to the partially submerged boat and brought the five fishermen back to the vessel, which took them to King Cove.
The Coast Guard says a salvage vessel is heading to the grounding site and is expected to arrive Monday. The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the grounding.
