Hatchery burglarized; fish killed

KLAWOCK -- Alaska State Troopers are investigating a burglary at a Southeast hatchery that left most of the salmon fry dead.
Troopers in Klawock responded to the break-in at the Prince of Wales hatchery. Troopers say the burglary occurred between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
Troopers say the intruder or intruders turned off several water valves, depriving the young fish of fresh water.
According to troopers, the oxygen levels in the water fell to fatal levels.
Troopers say as many as 99 percent of the fish died.
