Anchorage School District officials today plan to address a South Anchorage High School student suspended this month for lyrics he wrote about killing fellow students.
About a quarter of all South High students were absent today, said School District spokeswoman Heidi Embley, who called the lyrics "extremely disturbing."
The unnamed boy accused of authoring the verse was arrested last week, put on an emergency 45-day suspension, and now faces expulsion by the Anchorage School District, according to Embley.
Superintendent Carol Comeau was set to discuss the threats and the district's response at a noon press conference, Embley said.
The announcement follows automated phone calls to South High parents, the first about an incident at the school, then another announcing a meeting there to talk about school safety.
Twelve years ago today, two students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo. shot to death 12 students and one teacher, the deadliest killing spree ever in an American high school.
The lyrics, sent to the Daily News by a South High parent, talk about topping Columbine by committing the country's worst school massacre.
