Budget remains an impasse after House adjourns today

JUNEAU -- Talks between House and Senate leaders are expected to resume Monday in an effort to break the impasse over the capital budget.
The Senate adjourned for the weekend Friday. The House did Saturday after a brief floor session that served to make the point that representatives were present and ready to work.
Besides the operating and mental health budgets in conference committee, the remaining bills on the special session call sheet are in the Senate.
The Senate Finance Committee was to take up coastal management Saturday but committee co-chair Bert Stedman said the bill wasn't ready.

Senate leaders believe they've offered a significant compromise in their latest capital budget proposal. But it has contingency language the House deems inappropriate. Speaker Mike Chenault said he was going through legal opinions.
