Man and 2 dogs rescued from island near Wrangell

WRANGELL -- An elderly man and his two dogs were rescued early Sunday after being stranded on Limb Island, three miles north of Wrangell.

The Coast Guard received a report from a Wrangell mountain rescue volunteer that the man and his dogs were stranded near Garnet Ridge. The Coast Guard launched a Jayhawk helicopter from Sitka and the trio was rescued around 2 a.m., the Coast Guard said.
Medics waiting at the Wrangell airport took the man to the hospital.
