The House has rejected a proposed deal on the capital budget, with the Senate refusing to drop language making a package of energy projects an all-or-nothing deal.
House Speaker Mike Chenault, R-Nikiski, says the contingency language is a nonstarter with his caucus.
Sen. Bert Stedman, R-Sitka, says Senate leaders offered to make what he considered to be significant concessions, including dropping other language that tied $100 million of the governor’s proposed projects to the price of oil.
When asked where that left things, he said he expected the special session to head into a second week. Neither the House nor Senate plans floor sessions on Easter Sunday. And there is little for chambers to vote on anyway, with budget bills among the last unresolved issues of the special session.
