JUNEAU -- The Alaska Senate has adjourned for the weekend, dashing hopes of a quick resolution to the budget impasse that led to a special legislative session.
Senate President Gary Stevens says leadership will be available for talks Saturday and Sunday, but said he didn't expect a breakthrough on the capital budget this weekend.
Stevens says negotiations have to go both ways. He says that, to date, the Senate has made concessions but the House has not reciprocated. He says the Senate, House and governor should sit down and have a frank talk. But Stevens says that could be difficult after Gov. Sean Parnell cast the Senate as "the bad boys" and the House "the good boys" in dealing with his oil tax legislation.
