Coast Guard helicopter rescues 2 after their plane crashes PLANE CRASH: Anchorage pair airlifted off beach near Cordova.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued two injured people whose small plane crashed Friday on a beach 53 miles southeast of Cordova, according to the Alaska National Guard.
An Alaska Wildlife Trooper flying a patrol for bear hunters spotted the plane just after 11 a.m. near Cape Suckling. The plane had been on a flight-seeing trip, traveling with another aircraft, when it crashed during an attempt to land, troopers said.
The trooper landed and found the plane's two occupants -- Anchorage residents William Bredin, 27, and Lisa Yates, 21 -- with cuts and broken bones, according to the Alaska State Troopers.
One of the plane's wings had clipped the beach during landing, troopers said.
About the same time that the trooper reported the crashed plane, an emergency beacon transmitted its location to the Guard's Rescue Coordination Center in Anchorage, said Petty Officer Walter Shinn with the Coast Guard's public affairs office.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew with a ready HH-60 Jayhawk in Cordova soon got the call. The crew took off at noon and arrived at the crash site within 30 minutes, Shinn said.
The helicopter landed back in Cordova just before 2 p.m., he said.
Bredin and Yates were flown in a National Guard HC-130 for medical treatment in Anchorage, the Guard said.
The Super Cub flight originated in Yakutat, according to Coast Guard officials.
